What Causes Increase In The Size Of Breast Tissue In Men?
Gynecomastia
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern
Based on the image you uploaded, you have gynecomatia. Development of larger breasts in a male is known as Gynecomastia. It is secondary to a hormonal imbalance with increase in estrogen leading to proliferation of breast tissue. This can be due to Drug side effects e.g spironolactone, Testicular tumors, hypogonadism, Hyperthyroidism, Sometimes its idiopathic i.e no cause can be found. Obesity certainly does play a role as it can cause peripheral estrogen excess leading to gynecomastia. Physical exam followed renal, liver function tests and hormonal profile should be obtained in every case. Medication such as SERMs (clomiphene, tamoxifen) and Androgens like danazol or testosterone are used in the treatment of gynecomatia. Surgical options can be resorted to if the size does not regress or if the breasts are deemed too large for medication alone. A general surgeon can be consulted in this regard. Reduction in caloric intake, avoiding greasy , heavy and especially late night meals, regular 30 minute exercise daily is the regimen to lose weight.
Wishing you best of health
