Has Severe Pain In Prostate. Cannot Sit. On Macrobid. No Relief. Had 1 Testicle Removed. Has Downs Syndrome. Advice?
my son age 54 has severe pain in his prostate. He cannot sit. He has been on Macrobid for 16 days and still has the same problem. Nothing has changed and he still cannot sit. He has only 1 testicle since he had an undecended one removed early on. He has Downs Syndrom. I am very worried since the pain has not subsided.
A proper clinical evaluation could be required. The pain, in case its associated with other urinary system abnormalities could indicate an inflammation/infection of the prostate, called prostatitis. Measurement of markers of inflammation, urine analysis and culture and a prostate ultrasound might help. Intense antibiotherapy for up to 4 weeks and analgesics are usually helpful.
Individuals with Down s syndrome are more predisposed to develop certain tumors like testicular tumors. Doing a testicular ultrasoud, measurement of early markers of testicular tumors like Beta HCG, Alpha feto proteins and ACE could be useful for the start. Adding a prostate Specific Antigen measurement to exclude a probable prostate cancer could be very useful.
The input of a urologist and on time could be a useful asset to explore. Thanks and hope this helps as I wish him good health. Kind regards.
