Posted on Fri, 12 Aug 2016
Question: I just finished my last menstrual cycle about a week ago and another one has just started today. I take birth control but it is not the most effective ones due to my history with auras caused by migraines. I am not very sexually active but do sometimes have sex.

Brief Answer:
If the bleeding stops in two to three days, there is no need for concern

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
I have read your notes. From your notes it appears that you are now in the middle of the cycle and have started bleeding vaginally. Are you taking the birth control pills correctly? If you are not taking them correctly, it could just be breakthrough bleeding due to hormonal variations. There is a possibility of ovulation occurring too and this could just be ovulation bleeding.

The other possibilties are the bleeding could be due to cervical erosion or cervical polyp ( raw area or growth on the neck of the womb).

Ovulation bleeding and breakthrough bleeding usually stops in 2-3 days. If the bleeding stops in two to three days, there is no need for concern. But if the bleeding recurs, you need to consult doctor for internal examination.

I hope this is helpful.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama
