What Causes Itching And Swelling In Chest While Treating Costochondritis?
Question: I've had Costochondritis for a little under a year and some days are better than others but for the past few days my left chest has been swollen again and today it's itchy. Can Costochondritis cause itchiness and, if yes, does that mean it's healing?
Brief Answer:
Costochondritis never causes itching
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. I can assure you that costochondritis never causes itching. Itching can be due to cream you are rubbing. It may be causing contact dermatitis. Though swelling can be caused by costochondritis. I would like to know little detail about your illness before I can offer you some more advise.
1.Are you taking nay medicines apart from Brufen?
2.Are you having any redness or any discoloration of the skin?
3.Are you also having any pain apart from swelling and Itching?
Please send me answers of these questions. I will try my best to help you.
thanks

I contacted support as my question didn't post correctly.
I am not taking any other medications and I have not redness or discoloration or any other cold symptoms or fever. I have no other pain.
Here is my whole question that wasn't posted:
I've had Costochondritis on my left chest for a little under a year and some days are better than others but for the past few days my left chest is swollen again and today it's itchy and I've got a little tenderness in the middle of my chest as well. I have move some things that have some weight but nothing too heavy. Can Costochondritis cause itchiness and, if yes, does that mean it's healing? Should I still have Costochondritis after all this time even after taking it easy? If I remember right my Costochondritis started June/July 2014. What should I do to continue to help my Costochondritis heal? I try not to use my left side much and I don't lift anything heavy and I still get flare ups.
I take 800mg Ibuprofen as needed and it helps most of the time but not always. I also rub Blue-Emu cream on my chest when it's sore. I have used heating pad and ice packs in the past but haven't recently.

Brief Answer:
Costochondritis takes some time in healing.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for replying. I have following answers to your questions.
1.Itching is not caused by costochondritis. It may be caused by cream you are applying.
2.usually costochondritis heals well in six weeks to three months. But chances of recurrence is high. I think you have lifted some heavy weight may have caused muscle pull. Chances of costochondritis staying for such long time is very low.
3.If it is a muscle pull You are doing right thin by taking brufen. You should also take some muscle relaxant like Myoril or Myospaz.
4.Volitran ointment application is helpful. If it is not healing than steroid injection can also be tried.
I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
