Question: Hi , two days ago my left eye started hurting . It feels like the eye ball is bruised . It is a bit blood shot but not too bad . I can not think of any reason why it would be sore . The right eye is fine .

Brief Answer:
It seems to be post-respiratory illness effects and eye allergy.

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you to my virtual clinic HCM!
I have carefully worked through your case, and can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns.

Probable Reasons:-
Post-respiratory illness effects.
Allergy to the eye itself.

In your case it typically seems to be due to the cold and respiratory infection that sometimes causes eye manifestations and redness and itching, foreign body sensations in the eye and pain.

Management:-
Wash the eye with tap water many times a day.
Tablet Loratadine twice daily.
Femicone eye drops in the affected eye (first day 3 times, then 2 times a day 2 drops only until the eyes gets better).
Ibuprofen 800mg three times a day on first day, then twice daily until no pain an inflammation settles down with no redness and itching etc.

Precautions:
Avoid excessive coffee, tea, chocolates and energy drinks.
No soda, alcohol, no cigarette.
Avoid horse riding or any other sports until issue resolved.
No bike riding. Avoid dryness of eye.
Avoid direct air into the eye.
Use sunglasses when outside.

Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you in no time. If satisfied here, please give a generous five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.
For any disease you have, a timely follow-up after sometime regarding the treatment efficacy and to see any need to change the treatment options is very necessary. Keep a follow up some days after this visit session ends.
