Brief Answer:
Depends on type of surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
You didn't mention which type of surgery you have undergone.
If that was perineal or lower abdominal surgery, that could have some impact on urination.
Because of discomfort and pain you may not able to pass the urine properly.
Following measures can help:
-Try to sit sometime on toilet seat, slowly you can void the urine.
-Let the water flow from the tap, that can stimulate the urination.
-Clean the area with XXXXXXX warm water, which will decrease discomfort and stimulate urination.

If needed take analgesics with your doctor's advice.
Maintain adequate intake of water and fluids.
Usually in one or two days the problem will subside.
If the problem persists check for the possibility of urinary tract infection.

Hope I have answered your query. I will be available to answer followup queries. If you are satisfied with the response, please give your review at the end of the discussion.
Take care.
