What Causes Low Energy Level After A Heart Ablation?

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Sep 2014
Question: I had a heart ablation twelve days ago. Prior to this I had an angiogram which indicated no arterial blockages. I am67 years old - female. I was diagnosed with a-fib on XXXXXXX 28 of this year. While wearing a heart monitor - my heart stopped for 6 seconds. I fell - result with a concussion, broken rib and nose. A pacemaker was installed (Boston Medical). I had been very active up until this incident. It is taking me quite a while to regain stamina - I am fine for a few hours - then get tired. Should I see my cardiologist soon? I will see the ablations doctor on August 26th. Is this recovery time normal? I teach high school and have asked to begin the year after Labor Day. I am frustrated by my lack of energy. At times I have energy but then become tired. Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
Acceptable during recovery!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this fluctuating level of stamina and all the procedures you have been through. I understand what it means to go through all this and still struggling to get back on your feet fully as before.

It is still early after the procedure and for sure all cannot be as perfect as it was just before you fell sick. What I will like you to focus on right now is the progressive improvement in your general state. It would take sometime, even up to a month, to be able to regain your stamina fully at all times. Exercises/Chores would make you tired and rest would help. This is normal and would improve with time.

I think it is okay to wait for the upcoming appointment. Seeing your doctor a lot earlier would most likely not make any significant changes. Face everyday with great optimism and determination leading up to the start of the new school year. I am of the thinking that you would have regained significant recovery to start the school year but, should that not be the case, please pause and give more time for healing.

In all, this recovery trend is normal and should be improving over time. Stay positive and wait for the scheduled appointment.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
