What Causes Lower Right Back Pain That Gets Worse While Sitting?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Jun 2014
Question: What causes lower right back pain that gets worse when sitting or doing squats, and lower adbomen protrusion or swelling? I exercise 5-6 times a week doing cardio and strength training and eat healthy. When I lie on my back and press down on my lower abdomen I think I feel something there, but I'm not sure. Also, I can't seem to lose weight for the past few months regardless of no change in eating or exercise routine. The scale flucautes, lose a pound gain it back since January.
I started hormome replacement therapy in Dec 2013 taking .025 mg Vivelle dot and 100 mg progesterone. In XXXXXXX 2014 I stopped taking the progesterone due to the cost but kept taking the estrogen. I spoke with the physician last month and he advised not to do that as I am not in menopause and doing this could increase my risk of breast cancer. I am back taking the progesterone days 12-24 after cycle along with the vivelle dot. Otherwise I do not take any other medications besides multi vitamin, vitamin D and fish oil.

Brief Answer:
CT /MRI of abdomen and back.

Detailed Answer:
HI.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.

You have a few issues like:: Back pain in right- which increases on sitting and squatting and lower abdominal swelling or protrusion- you can palpate something in lower abdomen >>

I would advise such a patient to have a clinical/ physical check-up to see whether you have a lump in abdomen. The Gynecologist will be a good option as you can be examined internally. With your age of 47 there are many possibilities like bulky uterus/ ovarian swellings.

This can further be confirmed by CT Scan or MRI. And also to request the radiologist to see the lower back region for possible pathology.

The back-pain on the right lower side looks to be muscular spam only as this is aggravated by sitting and squatting. This can be secondary to the lump in abdomen.

Please continue the HRT, multivitamins, Vit D, Fish Oil and hormonal replacement therapy as per your Physicians guidance.

Please feel free to ask for more if you want any further assistance and please keep me posted of the CT/ MRI finding.

Thank you. If I have a bulky uterus or ovarian swelling could that cause not being able to lose weight? I lost 16 pounds but have been at a stand still for the last few months. I eat healthy and exercise at 100% 5-6 days a week.
I will schedule an appointment with my gynecologist and see about an MRI/CT.

Brief Answer:
No relation between Uterus/ ovary and weight

Detailed Answer:
The bulky uterus or ovarian swelling- will have no direct bearing on loosing or gaining weight at all.

After loosing 16 pounds, the wight must have settled for the one meant for your genetic set-up. And you are already on HRT. This has a bearing on your weight. I hope the Gynecologist will be in a better position to tell you about HRT and its effects on body and weight.

Hormonal imbalance can have an effect on all this...
