What Causes Nasal Bleeding After Taking Diethylpropion?
Question: Hi, i am a 48 year old woman. I have had two nosebleeds in the last two days and have had some abnormal bruising over the last couple of months. Within the last four weeks I have had a CBC with diff and a comprehensive metabolic panel done and all results were normal. What could be causing the nosebleeds and bruising if all the bloodwork is normal? FYI, I don't take any medication except for recently I was taking diethylpropion for weight loss over the last four weeks. I don't have high blood pressure and do not have any other symptoms. Could perimenopause be a cause?
Brief Answer:
Recognized side effect of diethylpropion
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Nosebleeds are a recognized side effect of diethylpropion. If this happens more often, then we may need to review this medication and probably take it off. I will recommend monitoring only at this time and the decision to continue or withdraw would be determined by the frequency and severity of any further reported bleeds.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Hello, thank you for response. Although I couldn't find any info about diethylpropion causing nosebleeds, I thought that might be the case so I have not taken it since Monday morning. How long do you think it could take before the nosebleeds stop if I don't take the drug anymore (or could the nosebleeds be a withdrawal symptom)? Also, you don't think I should be concerned about liver disease or blood clotting issues if all my bloodwork was ok?
Brief Answer:
Not a liver disease at this time.
Detailed Answer:
HI,
No need getting worried about these at this time. There are no other information in line with this. I will suggest that you stop and monitor only. When exactly it will al cease is a little not exact but should greatly diminish soon after stopping the drug.
Keep me updated with your progress. I wish you well.
