Brief Answer:
Can be angina or gastritis(heartburn)

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
Most likely the sensation you are trying to explain is angina(heart pain).Classical angina is associated with exertion and relieves on resting and lasts typically for 15-20 minutes.
I would strongly recommend you to go for few tests of cardiology like
2 d echo- wall motion of heart will be appreciated. In case there is any ischemia regional wall motion abnormality will be seen.
Stress test- You are made to run on a treadmill and ecg recordings will be taken.Any ST-T change is suggestive of ischemia or coronary artery disease.

Combined together 2d echo and treadmill test are highly sensitive to rule out coronary artery disease.

Please answer the following questions-
Do you feel that pain relieves on resting?
Do you ever had heart burn or gastritis or acid peptic disorder?
Do this pain has any relation to food intake?
Any episode of breathlessness or palpitation>?
Regards

Episodes are intermittent: come, last about 5 min and go with no particular activity.

No recall of heart burn, indigestion etc.

Light usual breakfast this am prior to onset.

No breathlessness or palpitations.

Have come less frequent this afternoon.

Follow up.

Detailed Answer:

Hi again,
As pain is not related to gastritis and heartburn.Initially i would recommend you to go for cardiac investigations as adviced above. At a age of 81 it can be due to coronary artery disease also.

Follow up with reports.
