Posted on Fri, 11 Aug 2017
Question: Pain on right side be.ow ribs radiating to back. Started off mild about 10 months ago, has became more intense and more frequent. Had colonoscopy, cat scan, ultrasound no diagnosis. After I lay down for about 30 minutes pain subsides. Getting ready to go out of the country and am very concerned. This may sound strange but sometimes if I drink a beer it calms down.

Brief Answer:
Can be cardiac pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing HealtrhcareMagic for your query.
I am a gastroenterologist and would be addressing your query.

As colonoscopy, Ct abdomen and ultrasound are normal most likely the pain is non gastric in origin.
Classical angina typically responds to rest.As per the standard text chest pain which settles down on using nitrates or on resting is usually angina.I would recommend you few baseline tests of cardiology like-
Tread mill test-An exercise stress test is primarily used to help determine if your heart receives enough oxygen and proper blood flow when it needs it most during exercise or strain, such as when . It is highly to rule out artery blockage for people who have been experiencing chest pains or other symptoms of coronary heart disease.

2D echo- It is also used to determine how well your heart tolerates activity and your likelihood of having coronary artery disease (blocked arteries), and evaluates the effectiveness of your cardiac functions.

Do you have gastritis, heartburn or acid peptic disorder?
Do you have anxiety issues?
Have you ever tried tums or peptobismol or any other proton pump inhibitor?
If cardiac cause is also ruled out then it can be muscular also.
Warm regards.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
follow up.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
See constioation causes stagnation of food in intestines.
This food is acted upon by a number of toxic bacterias causing release of large number of gases.
These gases compresses the nerves in thorax area and may cause the symptoms you are having.
As angiogram was clear heart can't be involved.

Please take a laxative like lactulose from 15 to 30 ml as required along with a proton pump inhibitor like Omeprazole and see if pain is relieved or not.

Feel free to follow up.
