Hi , I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
The pain at the site of I.V injection is mostly due to inflammation and thrombophlebitis of that area.
Mostly this swelling subsides in a few days. Usually with in a week.
If there is swelling and bluish discoloration of the skin, you can apply
Thrombophobe Ointment over his local area.
This would help him a lot.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.
