What Causes Pain On The Left Side Of Thyrohyoid Membrane?
Question: Hi, I am a 27 year old male and I am having a very strange pain on the left side of my thyrohyoid membrane every time I swallow. It could be behind that area as well on the left side because when I shift my entire larynx from the left to the right, I can feel a clicking in the cartilage and I believe that is causing the pain. When I shift the larynx with my hand to the right side of my neck, I can feel a piece of cartilage click, and as I attempt to swallow, the pain is decreased. I have never had this before and it has been in pain all day yesterday and it is still in pain now. What can I do to fix this or what kind of doctor would I need to visit?

It is quite an unusual presentation of throat pain. First of all, a history of trauma should be ruled out. Such pain can occur from local trauma.
If history of trauma is not there, then from your description, it does not look like common sore throat symptoms although initial stages of sore throat might rarely present with throat pain with movement. It might be inflammation of the bony-cartilaginous framework of the throat or might be some muscle sprain in front of the neck presenting with such symptoms.
A proper diagnosis cannot be made without a clinical examination. I would suggest you to visit an ENT specialist for a proper diagnosis and further management.
In the meantime, you can take mild painkillers like ibuprofen or aceclofenac for throat pain and avoid sudden and excessive neck movements.
