Question: I have been having pain in the front ligaments of my ankle. If I stay off of it as much as possible it hurts less, but this is not always possible. Will it help to wrap it in some way to stabilize it when I do need to use it more often? I believe the cause is from a slip on the ice.
Brief Answer:
Ankle needs rehabilitation along with ankle brace
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing your query
After going through the brief description my advice would be-
1. Do the regular ankle exercises to strengthen the ligament and muscle like upward and downward movement at ankle 10 times twice a day - morning/evening.
2. Wear anklet/ankle brace while at work and you may remove it at bed time. Ankle brace does help but it is not an alternative to ankle exercises.
3. Apply hot fomentation as warmed tissues are more flexible and less prone to injury. Use ice when finished with the exercises to minimize any irritation to the tissue caused by exercises. You may take Ibuprofen and trypsin to reduce pain and swelling under medical guidance.
4. Take balanced diet rich in calcium (1000mg/day) and vitamin D (1000 i.u. /day) along with vitamin C. These help in healing.
If the problem persists you may require stress x-ray of ankle.
Hope this information helps you.
Take care and I shall be glad to answer any further query.
