What Causes Pelvic Pain On Left Side And Enlarged Lymph Node In The Groin?

Question: Pelvic Pain on left side and enlarged lymph node in the groin. Went to Dr. 2-24-14 gave 500 mg Cipro 2xday for 10 days felt better. I was sent for an Ultrasound and results showed 5 mm septated cyst on right ovary. with .9 cm follicle. I was then sent for a CT scan. The CT scan report is attached. My main concern and worry is statement #2 where it talks about linear calcification and statement # 4 where it talks about my lymph nodes. I'm really scared that I'm going to have to have surgery. I had a ectopic pregnancy in my right fallopian tube about 15 years ago and had emergency surgery for that. Could it be the scar tissue that they are seeing from that surgery on the CT Scan? I have never had any other surgeries. I have a slight discomfort in my right side and my left groin still feels like my lymph node is inflamed. I believe the left lymph node may be acting up still due the presence of the diverticulosis. Should I request more antibiotics for this? Please help I have an appointment with my Gynecologist on 3-21-14 but I would like some answers now.

Brief Answer: ANTIBIOTICS MAY BENEFIT, CALCIFICATION BENIGN. Detailed Answer: Hello XXXXXXX Thanks for writing to us with your health concern. May I request you to upload the initial ultrasound scan report also ? Your CT scan is in essence normal. The small bit of calcification is indicated to be post inflammatory in likelihood. This means that you had some mild infection in the groin which resolved . The cyst also was likely infective, post resolution the lymph nodes are enlarged and there is residual calcification int he area. The calcification could be due to the previous ectopic you had, and also age related normal calcification in the adnexal region. The uterus , tubes, ovaries and cervix are all normal, so there is no cause for concern. Also, yes, diverticulosis can aggravate and flare up the lymph nodes ( which are clearly labelled as reactive ), particularly on the right side. If you are symptomatically not fully relieved, yes, extended course of antibiotics will benefit you. Also, a thorough gynecological evaluation ( per vaginum and per speculum ) in conjunction with a Pap smear should be done. All the best Please feel free to discuss further.

Thank you so much! You have made me feel so much better. I was so worried. I have attached a copy of my ultrasound results and the CBC. Is it possible that the cyst went away since it doesn't seem that the CT scan picked it up? Also please let me know your thoughts on the ultrasound results. I really appreciate all of your help!

Brief Answer: YES CYST HAS CLEARED UP Detailed Answer: Hello Thank you for your appreciation. Am glad you sent along the ultrasound scan report. Actually, you mentioned a 5 mm septated cyst, while the scan mentions a 3.3. cm para ovarian cyst which is significant in size. However, the cyst has surely cleared up, as it was not picked up on the CT scan. The ultrasound scan otherwise is normal. The CT indicates the lymph nodes are reactive. You can go in for an extended course of antibiotics and give the nodes 4 - 6 weeks to clear up, failing which, a repeat CT scan and possibly biopsy of the enlarged node would be the appropriate step. The raised WBC count in the CBC also further supports the infective etiology of the whole picture. Take care, and have a good day !
