What Causes Persistent Sore Throat Despite Taking Medication?
Question: My son tested positive for strep throat last week...he took all the antibiotic. He felt pretty good for 1-2 days but then the sore throat returned... he was checked for strep yesterday but that was negative and culture was still negative today. He has a sore throat and pain up into his ears as well when swallowing. Not sure what to do next for him. He is a 19 year old. Thank you so much!
I checked "yes" for did he see a doctor but he went into a direct access lab for the strep tests and did not actually see a doctor, just to clarify.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM.
Residual pain after antibiotic course may last for several more days but is should gradually subside. So I suggest to wait few days more, have vitamin c, ibuprofen 2x400mg and propolis supplement. If there is no improvement then he should have another antibiotic Azithromycin 250mg for 5 days. Wish you good health. Regards
