What Causes Pricking Feeling At Side Of Breast?
From last 1 month, my sister used to feel little pricking feeling in right side breast. Then doctor advised her to get the following tests done.
1. MANTOUX Test
2. Serum Prolactin REPRODUCTIVE HORMONES PROFILE (FEMALE)
3. Thyroid Function Tests
4. Ultrasound
5. Digital Mammography
6. FNAC (U/S guided FNAC)
So, I need an opinion on the report.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for your straight forward question and an elucidate posting.
I will try my best- this is a virtual world, so that if something is missed by me inadvertently, please note it down for me.
>> So, I need an opinion on the report.
1. MANTOUX Test::
Mantoux test in XXXXXXX has no ''diagnostic'' value as everyone is going to be exposed to tubercular bacteria and almost all have BCG vaccination. So the test result of 5 X 8 mm is not positive and as per the information in the report it is Equivocal meaning no inference can be given in medical language.
Does your Sister have any symptoms suggestive of Tuberculosis like, loss of appetite, weight loss, evening rise of temperature , cough with white expectoration? If not present nothing to worry.
Mantoux alone has no diagnostic value. If there are symptoms as I indicated , you may please go for and X-ray of the chest and Blood Quantiferon Gold test for TB.
2. Serum Prolactin REPRODUCTIVE HORMONES PROFILE (FEMALE)::
This is normal.
3. Thyroid Function Tests::
Theses are also normal.
4. Ultrasound ::
This is done to correlate the mammography findings as is well written in the same report for Mammograpphy
5. Digital Mammography:::
Impression is Fibroadenoma right breast - BIRADS II- This system is called the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System = BIRADS for uniform reporting all over the world.Category 2: Benign (non-cancerous) finding:
This is also a negative mammogram result ''(there’s no sign of cancer)'', but the reporting doctor chooses to describe a finding known to be benign. This ensures that others who look at the mammogram will not misinterpret the benign finding as suspicious. This finding is recorded in the mammogram report to help when comparing to future mammograms.
6. FNAC (U/S guided FNAC):
This too is suggestive of fibroademona.
.........................
Your further questions are :::>>Question: Are these symptoms of breast cancer/tumor? 2. Is it required to be operated or only medication would help. 3. Any other opinion that you would recommend.
1. None of the reports is showing any sign of breast cancer. ( Tumor is a terminology used to denote a mass- whether cancer or benign ).
2.With the reports you have presented , it is not necessary to operate. BUT as a word of precaution- What the is the willingness of the patient, her husband is also a point to be considered. How much are they and you have a Cancerophobia. In some patients I have to remove fibroadenima just to get a ''confirmatory '' report that this is fibroadenoma ONLY and NOT A CANCER just to satisfy and get the fear out of the mind of the 'patient'. The history of cancer Breast in your Mother, operated and is fine is noted. Practically there are no medicines that can work of a fibroadenoma and so do not give her any for this .
3. This is my XXXXXXX opinion that please talk to the patient, take her opinion, please try to understand what would she wants, in consultation with her husband and of course you too. How much is the phobia she has or has she accepted fully that this is a NON-Cancerous mass. The pricking sensation is just a symptoms of her anxiety as there is no disease that causes pricking sensation in the breast.
If your Sister is still under anxiety or stress of this begin lump it is better to get excised- a simple surgery, for 2 reasons 1> your get rid of the disease and
2> you get the histopathological diagnosis- makes you tension-free that it is not a cancer.
The adage in older times was : whatever is not a normal part of the body, better to remove and get a 100 % diagnosis by histopathological examination.
I hope this helps you to the point you have expected. lease feel free to ask if you need to.
This is the best consultation that I have ever received from any doctor. Thanks a lot for including lots of information in your response.
I believe my sister is not facing any suggestive symptoms like loss of appetite, weight loss, evening rise of temperature , cough with white expectoration.
Thanks again . . . :-)

Sincere thanks for your appreciation, dear XXXXXXX
This is a great information that your Sister is not having any such symptoms as noted, so TB is excluded.
Please rate the answer and thanks again. I shall be happy to answer you anytime in future if you need me. http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/UserServlet?page=userProfile#activitiesTabH
