What Causes Radiating Lower Back Pain And Abdominal Bloating?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Mar 2016
Question: I am experiencing the following: lower back pain which does not feel bone or muscle related. More like radiating pain; bloated abdomin. No problems urinating, no fever. I am type 2 diabetic, 200 lbs., and take the following medications Janumet, Glimepiride, Atorvastatin, Estradiol, Valsartan, and Pristiqu. I developed high blood pressure and gestational diabetes during pregnancy in 1987 and had a complete hysteroctomy in 2005, due to a tumor which turned out to be a teratoma (sp).
I have been experiencing the back pain and bloating for about a month.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in Healthcaremagic.com.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I understand your concern.
Thank you for providing a detailed history.
From your history, it seems like a neuropathic pain which can be due to diabetes or due to lower back pathology and probable nerve impingement. The bloated abdomen might not be associated to it; it might be either due to indigestion or as side effects of medicine you are taking.
In such patients I generally advise the following-

Avoid forward bending, heavy weight lifting.
Avoid fatty, spicy food, alcohol and smoking and rather take lots of oral fluid and dietary fibers.
Get a blood test for blood sugar done and accordingly glycemic control.
Local application of heat and painkiller gel might be helpful.
Combination of pregabalin and mecobalamin is very effective in such neuropathic pain.
Regular brisk walking which enhances metabolism.
pantoprazole-domperidone or pantoprazole-levosulpiride combination for bloating and pain.
Physiotherapy in form of spinal isometric exercises, quadricpes drill etc.

You can consult the above with your treating or family doctor.
Get back to me with the reports.
Hope I have answered your question.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards.
