What Causes Radiating Pain And Swelling In Hard Palate With Two Whitish Lumps?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: I have had throbbing pain on my hard palate for the last two days that seems to radiate to my teeth as well. It seems very red and swollen and it looks as though there are two white lumps on either side of the top of my mouth underneath my teeth.

It could be infection or abscess. needs clinical examination

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Throbbing pain, red swollen palate and two whitish lumps all suggests toward tooth infection and probability of having abscess.
You will need thorough clinical examination of the tooth and if it is drainable then the pus might require drainage alongwith antibiotics coverage after the pus examination for organism.
I would advice you to consult a dentist or your doctor as soon as possible for diagnosis and prompt treatment or it can get worse.
I hope I have answered your query well.
If you have any questions kindly ask me back.

I went to a Doctor and he told me it was viral infection. The one thing I forgot to ask was if it was a viral infection, would it cause pain in my upper molars as well.

I just spoke to a general physician. He looked at my throat and personally didn't see any irregularities. I'm not sure if the white bumps I saw were simply just discoloration of the palate and not actually "bumps". He told me that he believed it to simply be a viral infection that would clear up on its own and because I am young and in otherwise good health, antibiotics would not be necessary. Though I do experience pressure like pain in my top molars on each side. I was curious if this could be pressure from the sinuses right above those particular teeth that would cause the pain. Thank you for your help.

Brief Answer:
Ok. then it will clear on its own. don't worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for following up.

If the local area has been examined by doctor and told it could be viral infection then probably it could be that.

Sinus problem will also have other symptoms like headache, post nasal drip or running nose and constant heavy feeling in and around cheeks.

If that is not the case, then sinus problem wont be there.
I guess it mostly sounds now like viral now that you have given me more clear idea of what you have.
I think it will clear on its own in few days.

For pain you can suppress it with Tab PARACETAMOL 650 mg two to three times ady after food.
If it persists or increases then you better to consult a dentist.
I hope I have answered your query..
If you have any questions kindly ask me back.
Thank you.
