What Causes Recurrent Swelling Over Hands And Neck And Itching Skin?
Question:
i hav skin allergy wch suddenly comed and goes within 2-3hrs frm the tym i delivered a baby{5June 2013)....only wen i hav the CPM tablet the itching stops within 10-15mins......... it keeps happening fr a period of 20-30days......... my skin starts swelling over the hands and neck and legs and lips start swelling ....there is a lot of itiching.....i dont hav any allergy to dust...and ther are no mites in my bed.....the itching usually happened in the nyt bt now days it is happeining in the day as well..... last swelling and itiching was in the month of XXXXXXX 2014...wen i take the tablet it vanishes bt again comes bck creating lot of trouble........ i had hard and little bloody stools in the month of july to august last year bt as tym went on it has heeled on its own now... i am not taking any kind of medication... i had got a stool examination done last year bt it was normal......i checked with my food intake ther is no problem with any particular food intake... the previous doc who got my urine and stool test done found it to b normal and insisited me to check in my food habits and cleanliness in my surroundings......... and closed the case...........my surrondings are always clean....

I would keep a possibility of Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria.
Urticaria/hives presents as skin welts/swellings, which can be distributed all over the body. Itching is usually severe.
Urticaria OR hives can occur due to various causes like(to name a few):
--Infections(bacterial, viral, fungal)
--Drugs(Pain killers/ antibiotics etc)
--Certain foods and food additives/preservatives
--Physical Urticaria: Cold temperature, Heat, Pressure(Prolonged Standing, Sitting), Dermographism etc.
--Cholinergic Urticaria: in response to strong emotions, exercise, spicy food etc
--Autoimmune urticaria e.g that associated with thyroid, Rheumatoid arthritis, SLE etc.
--A few cases have no underlying cause and are known as idiopathic urticaria.
In addition to the basic investigations like hemogram, stool test, urine test, chest X ray etc, I would also suggest testing for thyroid and thyroid antibodies and ASST test.
30-40% of chronic idiopathic urticaria is autoimmune in nature (Chronic autoimmune urticria). I would therefore recommend an ASST test for you (Autologous serum skin testing) to either rule out or confirm chronic autoimmune urticaria(CAU) as the underlying cause.
There is a strong link between Chronic Autoimmune urticaria (CAU) and Autoimmune thyroid disease, therefore the need for thyroid testing.
Treatment: An oral antihistamine like tab cetrizine 10 mg once daily for a few days (3-4 weeks) would be suitable pending investigation.
A topical soothing lotion like calamine would help you symptomatically.

i hav tried the citrizine tab and calamine lotion..with this the itching stops ...bt then comes bck within 25-30days .... i hav to again take the tablet to cure myself... i hav done with the stool and urine test it said that the reports were normal
