What Causes Red Veins In Legs And Thighs

might be initial stages of varicose veins; get checked by a surgeon
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.
I have gone through your question.
As your physician has said, this might be just a part of aging. But as you have an occupation where you need to stand throughout, and you have been doing so since many years, a condition can develop which is known as varicose veins. Here, the veins become visible, thickened and tortuous. Sometimes there is redness and pain in prolonged standing and in later stages may lead to ulcers and other complications. So if such a patient came to me, just as precaution I would suggest the following-
Avoiding prolonged standing and if possible, changing of posture at intervals.
Look for symptoms like tortuous veins, pain or redness and ulceration etc.
Also look for tingling and numbness and get a blood sugar done. Also avoiding alcohol and smoking. All to rule out peripheral neuropathy.
Get clinically examined by a general surgeon as precaution.
You can consult the above with your family doctor.
Hope this was useful.
Regards.
