What Causes Severe Body Pain With Cough And Sore Throat?

Question: I have had a productive cough with mucus for well over one month. The mucus varies in color from dark yellow to white. My throat is very sore and it is sometimes hard to swallow. I also have some difficulty taking a deep breath. One ear plugged up 2 weeks ago and is still plugged. I have seen 2 doctors, one of them 2 times and have had a chest X-ray. No one has answers. I have been prescribed one round of amoxicillin, Advair, cough syrup with codeine, a Ventolin inhaler and have been recommended Mucinex and Tussin. I also have severe body aches. What could this be? I have taken a week of rest with almost no improvement.

By your history and description, possibility of post infectious bronchitis is more.
It is common after viral upper respiratory tract infection.
No need to worry for pneumonia because your cheat x ray is normal.
In my opinion, you should get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
PFT is must for the diagnosis of bronchitis. It will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment of bronchitis is based on severity only.
You should stop cough suppressants like codeine and advil.
You may need additional inhaled treatment on the basis of PFT report.
So get done PFT.
