What Causes Severe Cough With Yellow Phlegm?
Question: I have been coughing up yellow mucous, but no fever. Now the mucous is in my eyes when I wake up. What should I do?
Brief Answer:
it is probably a bacterial infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Since you are coughing yellow colored mucous and have similar discharge from eyes, it is probably a bacterial infection.
Mucinex (Guafenesin) is good. You can add a cough syrup containing Bromhexine. Both together will clear up the mucous.
For your eyes you can use antibiotic eye drops.
Also take steam inhalation, and do saline gargles.
Please rule out Diabetes.
If you do not feel better in two days--see your doctor for a course of antibiotics.
