default
Posted on Mon, 14 Mar 2016
Question: I have been extremely tired. Taking vitamins and think I am getting plenty of sleep. Had a cold for two weeks, still have it a bit. Have a bad hemorrhoid that is bleeding also. I feel like I have no energy. I am 53 years old.

Where do I get my answer? Through my email account or somewhere else?

How long does it usually take to get an answer? Just so I know when to look.

I feel really sorry for the health issues you have. It is definitely a concerning situation that need thorough probe into.

Feeling of lack of energy is also a symptom of anxiety and sometimes it is the case in many chronic anxiety patients. But don't worry as Psychiatric consultation and sometimes medication review helps alleviate the issue.

Other reasons may be:
You have bleeding hemorrhoids and it causes a considerable loss of blood that leads to low blood counts and volumes. Anemia is the resultant condition that causes lack of energy, easy fatigability or in some patients even shortness of breath. All depends on severity of anemia.

Low blood pressure is also a cause of lack of energy and unexplained weakness.

Sometimes this kind of symptoms are natural course of Flu/cold disease during convalescent period and it leads to symptoms like you are facing right now.

Please consult a Surgical Gastroenterologist for thorough evaluation and management of hemorrhoids. Apply PROCORT RECTAL OINTMENT inside and out of the anus. Take Citrucel dietary fiber supplement for better results and avoid constipation. Take more vegetables, fruits, whole grain foods and salads. Use SITZ BATH that helps in healing process. Once you get the hemorrhoids issue resolved, much better will be the results.

You need to keep a Warm mist Vaporizer in your room with vapopads in it so that you may get fast recovery from cold symptoms. If you have not seen any improvement since you caught cold, then it may be a secondary bacterial infection and needs antibiotics. Consult you physician for that too.

If there is anemia, your blood work will reveal and clinical correlation will help too. So, don't miss your blood work and a yearly exam appointment.

Hope I addressed all the concerns you have. Let me know if you have further questions. I will be more than happy to clear any doubts. Please give your 'rating' (if agreed, Five Stars) to help me assist patients in a better way; and, please don't forget to click on 'Close The Discussion'.

The hemorrhoid is bleeding but not excessive. It happens when I go to the bathroom and wipe. Not flowing into toilet or anything of that nature. I just had my blood pressure checked at my yearly physical. I usually have a little high blood pressure at the doctors as get nervous when I am at the doctor. It was fine.
My question is really, at this point, could the lack of energy and the anxiety really be causing this feeling of no energy. I have not had any issues going to the bathroom. Could it be due to my age and menopause. I had a partial hysterectomy, still have my ovaries, about ten years ago. I have been having night sweats lately. Could this be the reason I am feeling a lack of energy? I've been kind of moody and sensitive, which I used to get when I had PMS. This almost feels like PMS fatigue. I have been under a lot of stress lately. My concern is I think I am getting enough sleep but feel tired when I get up and want to lay down again. I do work and have not had an issue there. I just have no energy or drive. It concerns me as I am a doer. Could it be the medicine and the herbal sleep aid that is causing me to feel this way?

Brief Answer:
Possibilities are discussed in detail for your assistance !!!

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back with queries in this follow up. I am glad to assist you today to clear the doubts.

((My question is really, at this point, could the lack of energy and the anxiety really be causing this feeling of no energy.))
**ANS: Yes, anxiety can do this to a patient, feeling as if there is no energy.

((Could it be due to my age and menopause.))
**ANS: Yes senility and menopausal decrease of hormonal levels is one of the causes of such symptoms. Normal drive for life and energy to do everything comes through human metabolism and with advancing age, menopause and lowered hormonal levels all cause the body to feel low.

((( I had a partial hysterectomy, still have my ovaries, about ten years ago. I have been having night sweats lately. Could this be the reason I am feeling a lack of energy?)))
**ANS: Not actually. It is actually hormonal levels not the partial hysterectomy that causes feeling of lack of energy.

Herbal medications are less studied and researched. Little is known about their side effects profile. There is literature available but little is from third party independent researchers.

Yes definitely weakness and low energy are the side effects of KLONOPIN and these are needed to be discussed with your treating Physician. He may need to review the medications dosage or frequency.

This type minute of hemorrhoidal bleeding although is less likely to cause anemia but blood work is necessary to rule out and to be more sure.

Having enough hours of sleep never assures a sound, deep and restful sleep. Patients with a disease named Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) are unable to get sound sleep at night. They snore and usually get up many times a night due to shortness of breath due to obstruction to the airways. Being unaware of the awakenings at night they become frustrated as they snooze during the day.
Another disease is NARCOLEPSY in which patients get daytime sleepiness. I am mentioning them for your ease to discuss the possibilities with your treating physician. If necessary, he may refer you to a Sleep Apnea Specialist for better evaluation and management.
