What Causes Severe Swelling In Ankle Upon Walking And Sitting?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Oct 2015
Question: My ankle lately swells up pretty good, and my knee a little bit. It is when I sit at the computer for quite a while. Taking a walk with the dog helps. I am 59 years old. no pain as yet, but a tightness feeling to it. What is that? I am a bus person in a busy restaurant and walk a lot, but I feel like that is not the problem, as a guess.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

What you are experiencing may be related to rheumatismal disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, Gout etc.

If you were my patients I would recommend to do the following examinations to find out what is causing your symptoms:
- Blood work
- Uric acid levels (if it's above normal values this is a sign for Gout)
- Rheumatoid factor
- Ankle and knee x ray

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
