What Causes Shortness Of Breath After Walking For Few Minutes?
MANY EXAMINATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE OVER THE YEARS , NOTHING SHOWS OF A
PROBLEM WITH THE LUNGS. I AM CLOSE TO 83 YEARS OLD.
I AM ALSO USING XALATAN EYE DROPS EVERY NIGHT. IS THERE A POSSIBILITY THAT
MY SHORTNESS OF BREATH IS CAUSED BY THE XALATAN ?
Xalatan rarely causes shortness of breath.
Detailed Answer:
Hello sir,
Welcome to Health care Magic
It seems from the history that you are having shortness of breath for many years after walking for 5 to 10 minutes.
Shortness of breath is also called as dyspnoea and is commonly seen in diseases of lungs or heart.
It seems you are having glaucoma and you are using xalatan eye drops for treatment of glaucoma.
Xalatan is a prostaglandin containing latanoprost and is among the first line of drug for treatment of glaucoma.
Xalatan is known to cause shortness of breath but this side effect is rare and it usually occurs as a part of acute allergy to the drug and is seen in about 1% of people. This is usually associated with other allergic symptoms like skin rashes. Since you are not having any other allergic symptoms xalatan as a cause for shortness of breath in your case is unlikely.
However if you are using a combination of latanoprost with timolol which comes as xalacom it is known to cause breathing difficulties.
Since in your case the shortness of breath comes typically on walking I would like to rule out cardiac causes first. Hence I advice you to undergo evaluation by a physician or by a cardiologist to rule rule cardiac or heart related problems.
Hope this information is helpful to you.
Thank youi
