What Causes Shoulder Pain When Suffering From UTI?

Question: When I want urinate, I experience strong pain in both of my shoulders radiating down to mid forearms. I presently have a UTI. I have not been to my Family MD yet for a UA. I plan to call his office tomorrow. Each time for the past 5 years I have known that I had a UTI because of the strong burning pain that radiates from the center between my breasts and up to my shoulders down my arms to my forearms. It lasts only as long as urination occurs, but tonight it remains for the last hour. My Urologist said these sx are experienced by a small group of people in the US but, didn't know why. I am an insulin dependent Diabetic. I only became one in the last 4 years. I have had Diabetes Type II for 30 Years. I also have 5 stents in my heart for ASHD. I have been stable for 3 1/2 years. The fact that the mild pain remains in the center of my chest, concerns me. If it remains and increases, I will go to the ER. I hope you can answer my question. Thanks

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Possibly you have some malaise as a sequel of the ongoing UTI. As your body tones up to let the contractions happen in order to push the urine out, your shoulder muscles (which are probably sore due to the malaise) feel the pull and cry out in pain. That is the possible explanation.
Aleve (naproxen) 500 mg one or two tablets together as required, may help in relieving the pain. Alternatively paracetamol or acetaminophen can be taken (same dose).
