Question: my daughter seems to have a the corner white portion (towards the nose ) of the left eye slightly raised...if i make her look towards the right , it looks like a fold ..
it came up after rubbing the eye vigorously
Could it be just due to rubbing or any indication of an infection and what first aid needs be done as its midnight here
Brief Answer:
Edema of conjubctive, eye lubicant
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
It seems like an edematous area of the conjunctiva covering the nasal portion of sclera. Vigorous rubbing can sometimes lead to this.
Please do cold water washing in the eye and if you have any lubricant for the eye (artificial tears), please put few drops in the eye and go to sleep. Things should be fine by the morning.
This can also be because of conjunctivitis, to be doubly sure, if you have some antibiotic eye drops at home, put few drops in the eye few minutes after lubricant.
If the raised area is for some time and there is a possibility that you have noticed it today only, then pterygium can be a possibility which needs to be examined by an eye specialist but it is not an emergency and can be examined in the morning with an appointment.
Feel free to ask another query.
Regards
