What Causes Sore Throat, Hearing Loss And Swallowing Difficulty While On Olimelt?
olimelt 3.75 (olimelt 2.5+1/2 of 2.5 mg) and mirtaz 7.5 in the night
etizolam 0.5 in the morning and half of 0.5 in the eve
betacap tr 40
for my anxiety, meeting phobia in the office and insomnia. i have had anxiety attacks in the past.
saw my doc yesterday, she has added 1/2 of 50mg serta in the night along with the above combo,
i have been having sore throat, slight difficulty in swallowing and feel a lot of pressure in the ear with slight difficulty in hearing. saw an ent after trying antibiotic for 7 days prescribed by my gp, he said there is no infection and put me on rabonik 40mg in the morning. he asked me to do some tests and all are normal. I think these symptoms have started after i started taking olimelt. My doc yesterday said that she is planning to wean off olimelt and thats why she has added serta. I have following doubts:
Can olimelt cause such symptoms
since my doc is planning to wean off olimelt, i was thinking of taking olimet 2.5 today and skipping additional 1/2 of 2.5 but my worry is withdrawal symptoms, do you think tapering off such a small dose will give withdrawal symptoms
or should i wait for serta to settle down before i start weaning off olimelt, if that be the case how long will it take serta to settle down
will reducing olimelt 3.75 to 2.5 give me sleep problems
i suffer from ibs, do you think weaning off olimelt and starting serta will keep my ibs under control or it will aggravate my ibs
another worry with olimelt is fear of developing diabetes as i have heard that it can make u diabetic
Gradually taper and stop olimelt
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I can understand your concerns.
Yes Olimelt can cause these symptoms you have mentioned, may be thats why your doc has decided to stop it gradually
I t will be a good idea to taper it gradually so you may stop taking 1/2 of 2.5 which you were taking. Tapering of such a small dose will not cause any withdrawl symptoms
You may taper by 1.25mg every week so It will take 3 weeks to stop it completely and serta to take over the action
Take 2.5mg of olimelt which is o be tapered gradually at night at time of sleep, so It will not cause any sleep problem, may add etiozolam if there is any sleep problem which is I found very useful in my patients
No it will cause any problem in IBS
Yes Olimelt can cause high blood sugar levels but you have already started tapering it so no need to worry. However get your blood sugar periodically while it is being stopped gradually

morning when i woke up i was little more anxious than yesterday. i have to interview someone tomorrow and today morning when i woke up, i thought about it felt anxious and the thought remained with me through out the day
was feeling sedated and sleepy through out the day
what do you think causing it, is it the addition of serta? how do i overcome it....do you think it will settle down, if yes, how long will it take. since week end is approaching, any experimentation, if at all, i am thinking of starting from tomorrow night as i'll have two days to adjust. what would your advice be regarding experimentation?
since i am worried of withdrawal/side effects of any change, i am thinking of taking the same combo as yesterday? though sedation/sleepiness and increased anxiety was a concern today, do you think i should make some changes from tonight?
Serta dont cause sedation
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and sorry for delay
Sedation mmay be due to intake of olimelt in full dose, with mirtaz along with etizolam
No it is not due to serta as it causes minimal or no sedation
I think you should follow as we have discussed earlier to taper olimelt, and if you feel anxious then only add etizolam. Continue with serta and mirtaz
Wish you a good health
