What Causes Strong Vaginal Odor After Smoking Marijuana?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Feb 2017
Question: I had a recurrent bv (As I've been having for the past few years) so I took the 4 metronizadole pills at once as soon as I noticed the odor and discharge. The symptoms began clearing again almost instantly. A couple days later I smoked marijuana. Later on that day I noticed the smell got strong and pungent and there was discharge again? Could it have been the marijuana??? Because I'm reading a lot about marijuana not being able to hinder the affect of metronidazole. I just don't know what to do

Brief Answer:
Marijuanas effect on mucosa; take the right dose of metronidazole

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. A few articles has proven a small association with smoking marijuana and the occurrence of yeast infections; this means smoking marijuana could effect the pH of mucous (e.g. oral mucosa, vaginal mucosa, etc.). Although this cannot be directly proven, it is a theory being considered by many medical practitioners.

From my knowledge, marijuana cannot interact with metronidazole and so this should be ruled out. So in conclusion, try and avoid the marijuana unless completely required ma'am.

Also, take metronidazole as advised by your doctor, the dose is usually one 250 or 500 mg tablet to be taken during the day and then at night (12 hours apart), for a couple of days, and not the way you did (i.e. four tablets all at once).

I hope you find my response both helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

The dosage the gynecologist prescribed for me actually was 4 pills and the instructions were to take them all at once. When I smoked the marijuana the discharge and odor came right back the same day and I didn't even have that strong taste on my tongue anymore. The nausea was gone also. I have started taking a vitamin d pill once every day. Could this help me?

Brief Answer:
Vitamin D will help if you are above, post- or nearing 40 years of age

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again ma'am.

So you do not have any further doses of metronidazole, although I would say that this is not a complete course and you need to speak to your doctor to prescribe a complete course in order to accurately battle the infection which will require a longer and more correct course.

Vitamin D helps a lot for women nearing menopause or those who have already attained it, although there is no benefiting from it if you wish to use it to rid yourself of BV, there is no relation.

Marijuana would have effected your vaginal pH which caused the symptoms to return, please avoid it for a while (preferably even permanently discontinue it), to prevent having repeated episodes of BV ma'am.

Please write to me if you have any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
