What Causes Sudden Bouts Of Headaches Along With Discomfort Back And Neck Muscles?

For the last 4 or so years I have suffered bouts of headaches.
I suffer from tension and stress I know, my back and neck muscles get very tense so I regularly have a massage.it becomes sore to lean my head either left or right. Once these episodes happen.
I jog regularly and these headaches seem to improve, when I wake after a good nights sleep I have no headache either
I visit a chiropractor every two weeks and he clicks my neck and back and this also helps. My job entails some quite heavy lifting and I wondered if this might not help?
I have had an eye test each year for the last three years and to check if an issue there but the optician has said on examination no problem other than slightly stronger glasses.
Thank you
Tensive type headache.
Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
Everything in your description is compatible for what is called tension type headache. It is by far the most common headache in the general population (primary meaning with no identifiable cause).
It is a headache which is triggered or exacerbated by precisely stress and anxiety like it seems to be your case.
It is a benign headache, which treatment consists in over the counter nonsteroid anti inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen.
The best way of prevention is through relaxation exercises and physical activity.
If the headache bouts are very frequent then preventive therapy with an antidepressant like amitriptyline is often effective, but that is rarely necessary.
I remain at your disposal for further questions.
