What Causes Sudden Discomfort In Head Along With Nausea?

Posted on Wed, 11 Feb 2015
Question: Yesterday while waiting on a customer I went to nod my head. It felt like my brain hit my skull and something "popped " at the back of neck. Within an hour I felt nauseated and had to sit. No other symptoms. I had not eaten that day as we were busy and this had happened after 6 hours of rushing about. Today i had oatmeal with walnuts almonds and banana. 2 hours later when I went outside to look at the snow we had just gotten and started to walk I felt lighted headed. I take triamterene hctz 37 .5-25mg with 81mg aspirin. The only thing that changed in my life was this past week I drank. 2 glasses each day of cranberry juice. Hopefully you can tell me what happened and should I be concerned. If it matters to this problem I am 57 and female. Thank you

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about what you experienced. These symptoms are very non specific and raise no particular concerns concerning any disease condition. Have you been able to control your blood pressure? If so, please kindly send 2 readings obtained at different times to me.

For, having a relaxed mind and staying calm is the best thing to do at this time. unless something else happens, this is transient and need o specific medical attention. If you should notice any further changes or aggravation of symptoms, report to me and we shall act accordingly.

I hope tis helps. I wish you well. Thank for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Thank you for replying. My bp is usually 129-130/89. The highest I ever saw it was 150/96 but that was years ago and I have been on the medication for years. That is from readings on a machine at rite-aid. I checked the internet earlier and saw that maybe I should not drink cranberry juice since I take aspirin daily? I did mean to inform you that sometimes at night when I get to bed when I lying on stomach to read a book I have a whooshing sound in my left ear like ocean waves but it goes away shortly after I hear it. That is also not recent. Could it be related? And if no need at this time for concern why do you think it happens. Also I lead a chaotic life working full time and taking daily care of my 80 year old disabled mothwe but do not consider it too sstressful. I also only get about 5 sometime 6 hrs sleepisode. Thank you for your answers.

PLease, calm down and be relaxed!

Hi,

Your usual BP range is normal and I will not have reasons at this time to think your medications are not working good.. They are certainly working good.

For the ear concerns, how often and for how long has this been going on? I will like to know. Most of these symptoms are transient and rarely do they represent real threat to health. Spontaneous resolution is often the rule and exceptions are rare. I hope to hear more from you before concluding.

5/6 hours of good sleep are not bad. However, you may want to dedicate more time to this.

Let me hear what your take is on this. I wish you well.

My ear issues have been intermittently over the last couple of years. Thank you again for your replies. O get concerned at times due to my age and the fact that my mother and her 2 sisters had stroke . They all had other health issues such as diabetes which i do not have thanklfully. The only issue I have besides blood pressure is my cholesterol was slightly elevated to 214. At that time my gp bit me on low fat and it lowered that issue bit also lowered my hdl to 40. I have not been as diligent I'm raising that up die to my hectic life bit am trying. That's why I started drink cranberry juice on regular as I read that would help. I do consider myself pretty healthy tho. thank you so much once again as you did ease my mind.
