What Causes Swelling And Numbness In Gums And Throat Irritation?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: Hello,
I woke up this morning with swollen tender gum in my mouth back by my last molar on the left and slight irriation in my throat on that side. My face on that side and my scalp on that side both have a numbness.
I believe it's related to allergies/sinus drainage because I have severe allergies to trees and pollen but could it be something more? I've had it before and it's usually gone away within a day.

I am sorry to hear that you are having swelling of your gums and a slight numbness in the same area. I agree this is due to allergies. The tree and grass pollens are high all over the US now. This is usually self limiting and will go away in a day or so. I would also recommend antihistamine like Claritin or Zyrtec. Or use of flonase will also help with the nasal congestion, runny nose and itching eyes if you are bothered with these symptoms too.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions

So I shouldn't be concerned with the face and scalp numbness? Thats the only part of it that worries me.

Thanks!

Brief Answer:
No worries

Detailed Answer:
I do not think you need to worry about the numbness of the scalp and face. This is not a sign of a stroke. It is just due to the large amount of histamine being released from your allergies
