Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
Regarding your concern, I would explain that it is important performing a comprehensive differential diagnosis between different causes that may lead to her symptoms:
- fluid retention (related to heart failure, liver disease or kidney disease)
- chronic vein insufficiency in the lower limbs.
For this reason I recommend consulting with her attending physician and performing some tests:
- a resting ECG and cardiac ultrasound to examine her cardiac function and structure and exclude heart failure
- a chest X ray study
- some blood lab tests (complete blood count, blood electrolytes, blood osmolarity, kidney and liver function tests, inflammation tests, fasting glucose)
- an urine analysis
- a Doppler ultrasound of the leg vessels would be necessary if suspicion of chronic vein insufficiency (or varicose veins) is raised.
You should discuss with her doctor on the above tests.
Hope to have been helpful!
Feel free to ask any other questions whenever you need!
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri
