What Causes Swelling Of Foot Inspite Of Having Spiral Fracture Of Distal Fibula?
Question: I incurred a spiral fracture of the distal fibula requiring a plate and 8 screws on 3/8/14 by falling on the ice. I am in PT but this is really going slow. PT is painful, I am back to work full time--sedentary desk job and by end of the day have "severe' swelling even with 30-40 compression stockings. Is this normal?
I am using one crutch with 35# of weight bearing.

Brief Answer:
Avoid sitting in dependent position of limb.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have read your query.
Little bit of swelling usually occurs but if whole of the foot is swollen then you should try to avoid prolonged walking and sitting in dependent position.
Always try to sit with your operated limb on front chair to avoid further collection of fluid.
Take tab. trypsin and chymotripsin three times a day by prescription.
Apply hot packs for 30 mins in morning and evening.
I hope you have got your answer.
Thanks.
