What Causes Unilateral Pain In The Head And Facial Numbness?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 May 2017
Question: I get headaches that always start with a sudden searing, stabbing pain on the side of my head, just above my ear. After that, the entire right side of my head and parts of my face feel numb. Pain is severe for about 10 hours, some times I get vertigo with this kind of headache. It usually lasts for 2-3 days. Is this a cluster headache? Thanks for your time.

Brief Answer:
cluster headache less likley. Migraine or temporal arteritis more likely.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. There are two broad possibilities to consider - temporal arteritis and migraine, which may be the possible causes. Cluster headache is a less likely possibility. A thorough clinical examination backed with proper investigations would be needed for confirmation.

Taking Aleve (Naproxen) 500 mg one or two tablets together should provide relief.

Let me know if I could help further.
