What Causes Unusually Light Menstruation After Taking Sprintec?
Question: I am taking sprintec. This is my first month on the pill and my period started on day 4 of the sugar pills. It is lighter than it has ever been, which is amazing, but it also worries me that this could last a long time. Today is Friday. I start a new pack of pills on Sunday. I am traveling for work and I have an important presentation to do and I DONT want to be on my period for that.
Will starting the new pack help my period end? Is there a way to get it to end early? Is there any way to know how long it will last?
I'm use to a looooong period, but I this month, for this presentation, I just can't handle it. I would like to understand what to expect.
Thanks so much,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
use antifibrinolytics...explained
Detailed Answer:
hello,
thanks for contacting healthcaremagic.
If you have recently started on sprintec pills pack then you should start your next pack as scheduled on sunday , but if you are concerned that you would continue bleeding till sunday and you have a presentation the next day, then you may consider using anti-fibrinolytics tabs which reduce/stop menses and have been used in women with heavy menses.
you may take ...TAB TRANEXAMIC ACID 500mg thrice a day for 3 days from day 3/4 to shorten your period or stop menses.
But rest assured it would not affect your next sprintec cycle or cause any decrease in its efficacy either. it is completely safe.

Thank you so much for your quick response, I am grateful.
I just don't want to travel with my period and I really don't want to worry about it during an important work week.
I will start my new pack on Sunday as planned. In the meantime, it sounds as if I can take the medication you suggested above which will help me ensure my period stops soon (the goal is no period by Monday evening and Tuesday day).
Follow up questions:
1. Is this an over the counter drug that I can get in CVS?
2. Will this medication make birth control less effective? (My husband and I aren't sure if we want a third kid just yet!)
3. Will this affect or cause any problems with thyroid medication?
Thank you so so much!
