What Causes Vaginal Bleeding Post Menopause?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: Since I'm 65, I'm obviously in menopause. I take an estrogen replacement and I'm consistent with taking my medications. The problem: Back in January I noticed a dark, black vaginal discharge (minimal). It seemed like it might be old menstrual blood, but my last period was in my early 50's. I didn't think much of it at the time. Then in March, it happened again. Very minimal and limited to just one afternoon-same as before. Then again in late April at which point I sent a note to my PCP asking if he should do a pelvic at my annual physical on May 2nd. He didn't want to do the pelvic. So.... I dropped the question. Then I had the discharge yesterday. What could this be?

Brief Answer:
Post menopausal vaginal bleeding

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are concerned about having vaginal bleeding post menopausal. This needs to be addressed and not ignored. I recommend that you see and GYN doctor to be fully evaluated for post menopausal bleeding. It could be absolutely nothing but it could be the first signs of uterine cancer or cervical cancer. Please get this checked immediately. I am very surprised and concerned that your regular medical provider did not do a pelvic exam.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions

Thank you. I was very concerned back in January, but I really didn't know what it meant and I had no idea who I could ask about it. I have so many diagnoses (and I didn't even put in my full medical history) - that I have been treated as a hypochondriac much of my life. So, I usually avoid making medical appointments. Thank you for encouraging me to look into this as it might be serious, and is not me being a hypochondriac. I will make an appointment with a GYN in the morning. I hope he/she will take me seriously.
Again, thank you. Have a good evening.
