default
Posted on Tue, 7 Oct 2014
Question: My body temperature feels very warm all the time, especially at night when I'm trying to sleep. Its so uncomfortable that I can't sleep well. If i splash cold water on my legs, arms, face, hands and the back of my neck/ears it feels better for a few moments. This has been going on for t=years, but seems to be intensifying,
It's not like a fever or hot flash, its just that i feel warm-hot all over. Female, 54 years old. Ive been through menopause already.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to many causes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Feeling warm all the time can have different causes such as:
Menopause
Infections- Chronic viral infections can result in mildly raised body temprature, the infections, if severe or untreated, can also be associated with a decrease in weight. Tuberculosis is the infection most commonly associated with this.
Some cancers can also be associated with raised body temprature and weight loss - examples lymphomas
There are hormonal conditions that can also be associated with these symptoms.

A diagnosis of the exact cause of the symptoms can be made by a thorough history and examination by a doctor. In addition blood tests will have to be done- these would include a full blood count (can diagnose infection and give an indication of some cancers ), ESR- this is a non specific marker for inflammation in the body- it does not say where the problem is, just that there is a problem that needs further investigation, electrolytes, hormonal levels.

If possible, you may want to consider visiting your doctor for an assessment.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
