Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Gall bladder main function is concentration of bile and secreting bile when food contains increased fatty content.
Now that gall bladder is removed, there is no monitoring of the food content and secretion of bile as and when required. Because now liver is producing bile and it directly goes in intestines no matter the diet content.
So in some people actually weight loss is seen as the fat is not properly digested and causes excretionn of fat without absorption. But in some it causes faulty fat digestion which can also cause to increase weight.
There could be other underlying causes which gets masked like hypothyroidism.
The swelling in hand could also be attributed to weight gain and deposition of fat in hands. Or it could be some localised swelling which will need clinical examination from a doctor only.
I would like to advice you as follows-
1. Check your thyroid profile for excluding hypothyroidism. If found hypothyroid, then treatment with thyroxine will help.
2. Control your diet with respect to fatty foods. Reduce tsking fried foods, dairy products, oily foods which causes improper absorption and may lead to increase weight.
3. If the swelling in hand is pitting ( pressing by finger on the swelling causes indentation ) then consult a doctor as it needs to be clinically examined to look for other causes. If it looks like swelling because of generalised fat deposition then it will go away as you loose weight.
I hope I have answered your query well.
If you have any questions kindly ask me back.
Thank you
