What Causes Weight Loss After An Appendectomy?

Question: I recently had an appendectomy and went back to my regular eating habits. I weighed myself today and found out i lost 5 pounds. Is this normal?

The appendix is a small, nonessential organ attached to the large intestine near its connection to the small intestine. When the appendix becomes inflamed or infected, it is usually removed.It is a vestigial organ and has no direct role in digestion of food.

There is no direct relation of weight loss with appendix removal but indirectly post operation patient food habits bowels etc are affected for few days.Body needs some time to adjust to changes post operation as well as body uses its reserves to promote early wound healing. All these factors when combined together leads to mild weight lost post operation for few weeks.
