Brief Answer:
Seems to be due to liver disease or anemia. Follow up with your physician.

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns.

Your nails seem to be yellow colored and that shows to be a sign of anemia. Such lines on the nails and also this colour is also seen due to the liver disease. From your history with my clinical consultations, I know that you also drink alcohol. So, I would suggest you to ask your physician to do some blood work for you. This includes but not limited to Complete blood counts with differentials, Liver function tests, Hepatitis B and C screening, renal function tests and an Ultrasound of right upper quadrant of the abdomen.

Viral Hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease are also the reasons for nail issues. Hemoglobin levels and Red Blood Cell counts are also important to know as anemia is one of the causes of nail problems like this.

Cardiac problems may also lead to such issues with nails and your physician will definitely do your cardiac evaluation thoroughly.

Malnutrition is also an important reason, but you are on good diet as we discussed on july 2nd in detail on your diet.

Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns. I will be happy to get back to you shortly. If satisfied here, please give a five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.

Regards!

Thanks for reply.
I've uploaded the blood test that I had done later last year.

Other symptoms: gradual graying hairs, only noticable when lights are one, but started since 2 years ago (I do have slow vitiligo in a few areas, but not on scalp). No sex drive and lack of erection. Depression, ups and downs with mood.

Yet my blood test showed good apart from higher MCV (i've since supplemented with vitamin B).

I do drink heavy twice a week, but other than this I have a healthy diet and attempt to do at least 10 mins of exercise each day.

I welcome your reply.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
No big issue found in reports

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for a follow up query and I appreciate your effort you put in to upload the Labs.

Although the labs are old ones and of little clinical significance, but still we can predict on the basis of whole scenario that there isn't any major issue related.

MCV value of 100 isn't a big issue, keeping in mind whole scenario and all other aspects related to blood being normal. So keep relaxed, and this nail issue will also get resolved with diet and Multivitamins (you are already taking I think). If not taking already, start multivitamins especially with zinc in it. Zinc will also improve your sexual issue and multivitamins are in general great for your health. (Perfectil Capsules are good for hair nails and skin).

In Labs your liver enzymes are normal, but in this one year of drinking I we don't know the status of your liver. I will preferably suggest you to try avoiding heavy drinking as it is not going to go so far with you like this. One day you have to leave it because of its injurious effects. Why not before getting any damages.

Otherwise taking your health as a whole you are doing good. There is no major issue with your health.

Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns. I will be happy to get back to you shortly. If satisfied here, please give a five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.

Thanks for reply. Is it safe to take 20mg? I take it to also help combat acne.

Thanks

Answered by Dr. Muhammad Hanif (7 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Please observe the recommended daily allowance of the zinc.

Detailed Answer:
I really appreciate your follow-up query and happy to answer you.

Well, I would add once again that you need to follow the daily recommended allowance for the dose of Zinc. No problem even if you are taking it for Acne, still then you can't take more than 11 mg. It will not only cover the deficiencies you have, but also will help acne as much as needed therapeutically.
