What Complications Can Fistula On Arm Cause?
1.infection.2.arm swelling.3.cardiac failure
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Getting an AV fistula on arm is used for dialysis access. Its a lifeline of a patient having renal dysfunction. Surgery takes about an hour.
Possible complications include
1.arm and forearm swelling
2.failure of maturation or primary failure
3.wound infection
4. Congestive cardiac failure due to volume overload on heart.
These are possible complications seen in 5 to 10 percent of patients.
Your doctor will evaluate for this before you undergo surgery.
One can not do AV fistula on tummy. It is usually a catheter to do peritoneal dialysis. The problem with these catheters is infection and blockage...
so AV fistula is anytime better than dialysis catheters.
Thanks.
