What Do My Blood Test Results Indicate?

Question: Hi -- for the past 15 months, I've had elevated white blood cell and absolute neutrophil counts. WBC from 11,400 to most current at 16,000 and neutrophils from 9000 to most recent at 13,360. I've had 8 bouts with bronchitis during this same time period, each one treated with antiobiotics and at times, prednisone. The white blood counts have never returned to normal level, even after completion of antiobiotics. I'm also currently undergoing evaulation for a possible neuromuscular disease. Most recently my CPK and Aldolase levels have been elevated. Would muscular dystrophy or something similiar to it also cause the rise in WBC and neutrophils?

Detailed Answer:
hello and thanks for the query.
it would be unlikely that muscular disorders would contribute to an elevated white blood cell count.
I suspect that the repeated infections may be playing a role. also prednisone is classically associated with elevated wbc and neutrophil counts.
it would be reasonable for you to see a hematologist for a baseline exam. they might consider sending your blood for a flow cytometry analysis.
it is unlikely that you have a primary hematological disorder.
chronic infections and inflammation can cause mild elevations of your white blood cell count which is what I suspect at this point.
