Question: I am 69 years old I still work and am fairly active. At night I am experiencing numbness in my hands and a dull pain wh makes it hard to sleep. Got any suggestions?

It is possible that your symptoms are related to carpal tunnel syndrome. This can cause numbness and pain which tends to be worse at night.

Carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms occur due to compression of a nerve called the median nerve.
This terms passes under a sheath at the level of the wrist.

There are different possible causes including : (1) family history
(2)diabetes
(3)over weight or obese
(4)rheumatoid arthritis or other types of joint inflammation
(5)injury at the wrist
(6)thyroid disease and some other hormonal diseases
(7)high amount of repetitive movements at the wrist

It is diagnosed mainly on history , examination.

Treatment involves: weight loss of any excess weight
(2)wrist splints for 3 to 4 weeks
(3)treating any underlying condition
(4)ultrasound therapy to the wrist
(5) surgery if needed
