What Do The Following Blood Glucose Levels During Pregnancy Indicate?

My wife is 5 weeks pregnant and we got it confirmed by visiting a doctor at a nearby hospital. She was asked to undergo couple of tests and my question is related to Fasting Blood sugar. Her results are:
Fasting Blood sugar - 100
Post Prandial Blood sugar - 113
is the FBS normal? I was told this has to be below 92 but however can go up during pregnancy. Can you please advise us on this? Thanks.
Also, she will be travelling to US on 10th March for 3weeks.
Oral glucose tolerance test advised
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
I have reviewed the report.
The fasting blood sugar is raised, as levels beyond 92 mg/dl in pregnancy are considered to be high.
The increased blood sugars in pregnancy are due to the hormonal changes in pregnancy, but values beyond 92 are considered high after adjusting for changes in pregnancy and body metabolism.
She should get a Oral glucose tolerance test with 75 gm glucose to check for any derangement of blood sugars. Further treatment, either dietary changes or insulin, should be decided accordingly.
She can travel once the treatment is started.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Nothing to worry as of now
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
One can have gestational diabetes even if there is no family history.
There is nothing to worry as of now till the glucose tolerance test is done.
If the test is normal, then she can continue with normal diet.
If it's deranged, then she should start diabetic diet.
If the diabetes is controlled, then there is no adverse effect on the fetus.
Chances of diabetes are increased in those females who have gestational diabetes in pregnancy.
