Brief Answer:
investigation after consulting physician as soon as possible

Detailed Answer:
Hi Ebhuland
Welcome to HCM.
The symptoms in your husband may be due to obstruction in the intestine or overdistension due to slow movement of intestine called pileus or even a perforation.
Any severe systemic infection or dyselectrolytemia may lead to ileus in elderly.
In nutshell his disease is complex and needs further work up.
Better get him admitted and get referrals of physician and surgeon.
CBC, RFT, LFT, Chest Xray and Abd Xray and ultrasound whole abdomen will be helpful in diagnosing.
I hope the advise will be helpful for you.
