What Do Weight Gain And Visual Changes Indicate?
Question: I recently had my annual eye exam and found that my vision has become more nearsighted, after several years of gradually becoming more farsighted. Additionally, I have lost 7 pounds (from 150) during the past three weeks. My ophthalmologist suggests that this might be incipient diabetes. I am also having problems with ED. What is my next step?
Brief Answer:
blood tests
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
Visual changes and weight gain or loss can be signs of diabetes. The best way to make sure that is not what is going on is to see your doctor and get lab tests done. A fasting glucose and a Hemoglobin A1c should give you a good sense of this. The Hemoglobin A1c is a reflection of how well your sugars have been controlled over the past three months and should be less than 6 in someone without diabetes.
If it is elevated or if your fasting glucose is elevated you may be dealing with prediabetes or diabetes.
Make an appointment with your doctor for follow up
