What Does CT Scan Showing Cyst On Liver Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 May 2015
Question: I had a colonoscopy, which showed a polyp so they had me undergo a CT scan. That showed a cyst on my liver, and now they are recommending that I have a third phase CT. Im wondering if I could have an ultrasound done instead of that. Less expensive and no radiation.

Brief Answer:
I recommend the triple phase CT!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these findings and all the inconveniences this has caused you. An ultrasound would not provide enough information needed to understand the exact nature of this mass in the liver(cyst). The triple phase scan is best suited in describing the nature of this mass. An ultrasound would not be able to do this. It would simply be a delay in doing the right things and you would most likely end up going for the CT scan still.

My advice is that you do the CT scan as it would best characterize the liver and the cyst they saw. An ultrasound wouldn’t do these. Radiations and cost would not lead us to doing what is not appropriate. I rather suggest we do the right thing immediately and move on.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
