What Does A Non Bleeding Bump On The Gums Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jun 2016
Question: I have a small bump on my gum. It causes only mild discomfort, but it has been there for about two weeks. It does not bleed. The bump is near a tooth where I had a root canal in 2000. What could it be. I go to my dentist for my regular check-up in two weeks.

Brief Answer:
Dental abscess or gum abscess, needs evaluation..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain small bump over the gum near a Root Canal Treated tooth can be a tooth abscess if there is secondary infection in the tooth..

It can also be a gum abscess or a gum boil that can occur due to food impaction in the gums leading to bacterial overgrowth and formation of a boil..

A confirmation of the cause is needed and it can be done by getting an x ray of the tooth done..
If it is a tooth abscess caused due to re infection in root canal treated tooth then either a course of higher antibiotics like Co-Amoxyclav(Augmentin) can help in resolving the infection..
If does not improve re-treatment of tooth is needed..

If it is gum boil Scaling and curettage will resolve the bump..

As of now you can apply a numbing gel if it is sore..
Do warm saline gargles...

Any further questions are welcome..

Regards.
